Based around the beautiful Loch Shiel, near Fort William, with Glenfinnan in
the North and Acharacle at the South end of the Loch, a variety of Chamber
concerts, Recitals, Brass and Choral concerts are organised. Traditionally the
Edinburgh Quartet, the only full time string quartet in Scotland and one with
an international reputation, has opened the series in Glenfinnan at St Finan's
Church, close to the famous memorial to the 1745 uprising by Bonnie Prince
Charlie. The festival has closed with a humorous concert of light opera arias
set around an absurd but enjoyable plot in the environment of a café or
night club.
Works covered in recent years have included such great pieces as the Schubert
Octet, Mozart's Clarinet Quintet, the Fauré Requiem, compositions by
local composers, Patrick Stephen-Samuels and Richard Stead, as well as works
by Jim Parker and Fats Waller. All easily listened to.

The programmes have proved very popular with a 50% growth in each of the first
three years. In 2000 the growth was slower, but the venues were full to near
capacity for most concerts, and booked out for some. Booking early for the next
festival therefore seems a wise precaution.
